Lose Weight Doing Housework?Category: Body by Becky | Permalink Published: Wednesday, March 17, 2010 When you think about exercise, do you automatically imagine yourself on the treadmill, kickboxing, or cycling until you pass out? If so, you might be surprised how many calories you can burn doing simple, everyday activities.
Whether we like it or not, housework is something we all have to do- at some point or another. Rather than absolutely dreading it, do it quickly for a gym-free workout! Did you know that a 150lbs person can burn as many as 150 calories by mopping the floor for 20 minutes? Now imagine if you vacuumed first- that's another 150 calories!
Not big on indoor cleaning- or if you leave it up to the kids (which my parents never had a problem doing!), outdoor chores work just as well. The same 150lbs person will burn 177 calories pulling weeds for 30 minutes and another 120 calories mowing the lawn!
Advice for the day--- use your "chores" to keep your heart healthy and your muscles working....why do you think our grandmothers and great grandparents rarely had heart problems and rarely hit the gym? It was a workout just cleaning up after us!
