Hello and Welcome to Affordable Fitness Gym In Murrieta

Welcome to the Affordable Fitness Blog. My name is Natalie Rohwer, and boy, do I have a story for you! I was approached recently by Michael Julian, CEO of Affordable Fitness. He had read about my plight of having gained 15 lbs. when my daughter went away to college last year (The Freshman Fifteen). He needed a writer and apparently, I needed a fitness program.

I was hesitant about taking this job. I am a runner. Running (or loping along slowly) is how I’ve maintained my health and fitness over the last five years. I've never used a gym machine in my life. I've never picked up weights—free or otherwise. I’ve had gym memberships in the past, gyms with all of the amenities, and all I ever used is the treadmill. A couple of times, I used the bicycles. A few times, I played racquetball. That is the extent of my gym experience.

As far as nutrition goes, I always thought I was a pretty healthy eater. Simply put, I love food! It shouldn’t surprise me that I've gained fifteen pounds in one year. In the past, I was always able to eat what I wanted whenever I wanted. Running kept my weight stable. Then, last year, I turned 40. My daughter went away to college, and that was the end to that chapter in my life.

New day, new story. This blog will chronicle my experiences at Affordable Fitness for the next 90 days. Michael tells me that I am almost certainly going to safely lose the fifteen pounds. It’s going to take exercise and diet. Can you hear the tremble in my voice? I'm a little scared because I already work pretty darned hard. What more does a girl have to do to stay in shape? I'm also afraid because one of my freelance jobs is to go to happy hour. Don't laugh! It's true. I am the social columnist for Under the Sun Magazine (http://myunderthesun.com/). Once a month I visit a local happy hour, make new friends, eat some appetizers, try new drinks and then, write about it. Does this mean I can't drink wine, beer, or margaritas anymore? Eat artichoke cheese dip and sweet potato fries?

I’m going to find out tomorrow when I meet Tom Grindle, General Manager, at Affordable Fitness. Then I'm going to inform you of what to expect from a gym with NO CONTRACT and only $15/month. What does that look like? I’m going to let you know next week so stay tuned.

This is perhaps the most common fad diet myth. This misconception has been promoted by all the high-protein fad diets on the market (Atkins, etc). Carbohydrates are your body's main source of fuel. Cutting carbohydrates from your diet will, without a doubt, increase your weight loss ten-fold, HOWEVER, the second you decide to re-introduce carbs into...

Myth #1: Skipping meals helps you lose weight. No it does not! On the contrary, skipping meals makes you hungrier as it creates hunger cravings and actually causes you to over eat and/or store more fat (your body goes into starvation mode).
